SeaPack

>> Thursday, September 15, 2005

SeaPack was probably my very best thing I made for the UT2004 era. I saw a lot of cool stuff made by other people, some forgotten, that I thought would all really work well together. In this day and engine, water was a new thing - there weren't a whole lot of games that really let you play around with it.  But some people had made working boats and vehicles and weapons that really screamed for special maps - so that's what this is.  Look through the details below and, if it still works, give it a try.  It probably does.

DOWNLOAD HERE or from MODDB

Info way older than 2018:
HIS THREAD has the latest information.

This is hopefully the start of something bigger in the future. After tinkering around with Vynum's fixes of Monarch's UT2004Navy (Annnd digging into a few other vehicles... I'll come back here & write credits for everything...), I created a non-U4E version of my SterlingFlood board and filled it up with aquatic vehicles.

It was a lot of fun! So, with relative ease, I flooded Torlan (aka the Most Modded Map EVAH) and put the Navy in there - ALSO a lot of fun.

This is a BETA release and I expect at some point to release an update hopefully without having to rename the files; please expect that.

SeaPack Way early beta version! Contains: non-U4E SterlingSea map, and the flooded version of Torlan.

Note: This zip file does not include the following mods, which you will need to support it:

SinkPack2004, Annihilation Arsenal, and UT2005Navy
(UT2005NAVY requires UT2004Navy*, which requires AirpowerIII)

At some point, I would like to release more "SeaPack" boards supporting the Navy and the other aquatic vehicles out there. (Would anyone be interested in helping out?) I'm going on vacation tomorrow, and when I get back, I'm looking into helping Xyx & Shinzon with something. I should then help out U4E with something ELSE.... But after that, or at the same time, I can start moving slowly on this again.

Whoops - I forgot that Monarch doesn't have the DL up for that (UT2004Navy) any more... Since he said he didn't mind if I created stuff with it...

SeaPatch for March (a) - Contains a flooded RedPlanet and ArcticStronghold. RedPlanet has some YoJoe vehicles in it, however I noticed that in at least one test, my FPS dropped to OMG levels when the KillerWhale came into view... Gotta go tell Scot_G about that.

SeaPatch for March (b) - Contains a deeper IslandHop, an updated VCTF-NavalCombat, and a tweak for the wbNavy.u -- basically lets you enter the ManOWar if a bot is in control, so you can kick it out.

Oh, and I compiled EVERYTHING that's needed into one RAR file... but it's currently about 150 meg. :P  So, I need to do some cleaning, I think, before I can post that.

I can e-mail a working copy of UT2005 or put it on my slow-@$$ FTP site. When I mean working, I mean it works for me.

I sent some screens of the maps Winkyboy, but I've got a feeling they didn't go through.

That RAR file should be the same one I sent to Swiftlydead before. Are you using winRAR to try opening it? If not, do so -- I've found that other programs capable of opening RAR files are not actually capable.

I don't have access to the source to re-upload, but you can always find Vynum's original .exe file out there - I think it's on Fileplanet.

Swiftlydead, if you could put the .rar file on your FTP site that would be good. It's probably faster than my (dialup*dies* ) connection.
Winkyboy, I am using winRAR and I posted the error message it gave me. As for the .exe, I have it, but it insists on installing to C:, and ut2004 is on D:.
Thanks for all the help!

Ok... You can find it @http://www.aregner.com/steve I believe. Remember to do the http:// part, my friend's server can be fussy about that. First I must re-install my FTP program (gimme 5 minutes) because it only works one time before it dies and you have to re-install it. Oh, and ignore all that stuff laying around the site... I've been to lazy to do half the stuff I meant to with it.

Okay! ut2005navy.rar is going up. Mind you I'm working off a satillite connection, so my upload rate is crap and it'll be another 1hr:30min:25sec after this post before it is up.

On the plus side I got 2 Gigs of memory in my computer now*heh* Me so happy! UT is running like a dream...

Swiftlydead, THANK YOU. That exe file was the hardest mod to install EVER. Rar files are much easier to work with. Downloading now, will post again if there are more problems...

NNNOOOOOO!!!!
WHY doesn't this work?!?!?!
Maybe you could compile a zip file. I appear to be having problems with rar files.
And yes, I'm using WinRAR. Perhaps it has something to do with the version? Mine is 2.50.
If yours is a later version, could you provide a link so I can download it?

O.K.

I've got an update. I'm almost sure that the problem is with my version of WinRAR. I found their site and it's now at 3.50.
However, I'd prefer not to upgrade (for reasons too lengthy to go into now).

I also have a bunch of .uz2 files, but this is an unfamiliar compression format and I haven't the faintest idea what to do with them.

So, the possible solutions are:
You post a .zip file.
You tell me what to do with these .uz2 files.
Or, I can bite the bullet and download WinRAR 3.50, but I really don't want to do that.

Thanks for all the help.

It works then? Good, good... Enjoy the mod, for it 'tis a good mod.

Oh, and mind the mines, they make a really big boom. Another thing (though it may be in the read-me, but lord knows few people actually read them), press "B" in the Kraken to switch to the nuclear missile and its sorta like calling in an airstrike. Hold down the fire button and about 5 megatons of goodness is on its way, though the missile can be shot down... Which is incredibly annoying when you're on the delivery end, not so bad when you're on the recieving.

Thanks for helping out, Swiftlydead! I really appreciate all the things you've been doing. Looks like in the Atari thread that Buffy took some really great screenshots, so I'll put yours up when I get back, so both will be up eventually.

Yeah, I see all their amazing-wonderful vehicles and I'd like see people playing them even more, so I'm going to see what I can do to help skin a couple of them. If it turns out easy enough, I'll just keep on doing it. I should have a good amount of time once I get back from vacation, here.

All the links you need are in the first post of this thread. I updated the link for the UT2004Navy (although the updated link already existed at the end of the first post already).

Winkyboy (MY download meaning the winkyboy.com-hosted copy of UT2005) 10/28/2005 5:18:21 AM
Winkyboy Matthew, if you have subs but it crashes when you enter, that means you haven't installed UT2005, for which the link to MY download is in the SeaPack thread.

Okay, Install or re-install these: Order is POSSIBLY irrelevant, but do it in this order just in case:

AirpowerIII)
UT2004Navy
UT2005Navy
SinkPack2004
Annihilation Arsenal
SeaPack

If that doesn't work, you probably have some other issues, maybe a conflicting mod, or something. But this is ALL that you need to get the SeaPack working.

I'm not sure what patch you mean, but if you're talking about official patches, just get the latest one, it should work. I believe it's still 3355.

Nope, UT2004Navy will not work alone. Here's what they are:

UT2004Navy: Monarch's base code, containing all the vehicles and at least one sample map. Does not work alone.

|
|
V

UT2005Navy: Vynum's fix. Makes all the vehicles work again with at least patch 3355

|
|
V

SeaPack (wbNavy): Winkyboy's modifications to Vynum's fix, plus new boards for the vehicles.

AFAIK, there are no servers running any Navy packs. The installations are so large and the boards are so few (as of this time) that it doesn't make it worth it to possibly force people to download this stuff in-game. Thus, the Navy is pretty much a single- OR LAN- based mod. I don't have a server, for as of this writing I only have dial-up at home. (That'll change soon)

P.S. Vynum DID have his board running on some server at one time, but I haven't heard from him for months. Aww

well..... the only sub that'll work is the kraken and the custom mini sub, when i use CL5 on em they die instantly for some reason... or if i get into 1 when it spawns it spawns with 0 health and wont accelarate or go back and it spins when i use strafe and all it'll do is go up/down in the water, nice sounds though when it dives... any idea why it wont work?

I never use CL5 with these... probably not a good idea. They're peculiar enough on their own (which is documented in their readmes/webpages/etc)

yea...... when a boat or sub spawns it just spawns with 0 health and dies almost instantly....
and the subs on UT2005/UT2004 Navy still wont work... they just crash the game if me or the bots try to enter em.

Well, I'm actually stumped then... It could certainly be a conflicting mutator or other mod... that's my leading suspicion.

Of course, that "subs crashing game upon entering" thing only happens when you try to enter a UT2004Navy version, I'm fairly certain. So somehow you might have things installed improperly, too. Absolutely DO NOT test these things on any other map than the two that I have in the SeaPack. I can't provide support for other maps...

Oh, and to answer your Shoutbox question, no the subs are not dependant upon the U4E mod.

UTNavy's (2004 variant) code is old and hasn't worked since the patch before ECE. I've no idea what is up with the 2005 variant since it's suppose to have updated code, not that it matters much, many of the ships are too big anyhow. Even on Winkyboy's maps, the old battleship hardly fits. And yes, entering the subs still crashes the game in the updated version, though I no longer get the flying battleships like I did in the 2k4 variant.

Monarch's stuff has always been a tad particular with car launcher, example would be the Nexus launcher will only fire 1 nexus missle and never reload and most of everything has at least 25% damage. My advice is just not use Car Launcher for his mods. Swap tool and Worms vehicle thingy also tend not to work well, but sometimes it does depending on the vehicle. Hit or miss with those.

Really? That's happened to you, too, Swiftlydead? I've never had this happen to me on the 2005 stuff (or my modifications, either...) It's only ever crashed with the 2004Navy for me.

I hope and pray that water volumes/vehicles are more supported in UT2007...

I never "spawn" these vehicles in-game (I'm guessing you're asking about using CarLauncher or SwapTool, etc). I only know that the vehicles I placed in the SeaPack maps work. So if this is the case, then my answer is, "I can't answer your question about how to spawn vehicles..."

You do need U4E in order to run SterlingFlood. (All maps with U4E in the name are going to require it; you can get more from their homepage) U4E is a large download, but well worth it.

SterlingSea has two versions, and if you grab the one from the U4E forum page, then you'll need U4E to run it. But again, the subs themselves do not require U4E.

Well, I never figured out why they were blowing up for you, Matthew... They've never done that for me.

But I reply now just for an update - I've been tooling around in the editor again and have two more remakes in fun/playable form, but not available for download yet. I need to add in invisible walls to block the Navy vehicles, and they'll be good to go. (It's just such a boring pain in the butt to do that... bleah) I flooded RedPlanet and ArcticStronghold. Good maps for flooding, really. Especially the latter!

I haven't put in the YoJoe boats (well, boat and hovercraft)... wondering if I should. I think I should.
